    par Many rare and remarkable palms are native to the region of Taolagnaro (Fort-Dauphin), located in the extreme southeast of Madagascar. The following is an account of the palms seen during fieldwork funded by the International Palm Society and includes the description of one new species (Ravenea conferta).
